The 2016 Oscars nominations/predictions.

Oscar Season!! I get beyond amped up for my favorite night of the year! Gotta get the perfect outfit, the notepads, and the red carpet coverage all prepared for a night of champagne, snacks, and watching the oscars with extreme intensity. So, now that the nomination list has been announced, lets discuss the nominations and my predictions on who SHOULD win and who WILL win....
I'm gonna tackle the biggest categories for this list, because we all know there's so many! We'll stick with the biggest awards of the night:

Best Picture:
The Big Short, Bridge of Spies, Brooklyn, Mad Max: Fury Road, The Martian, The Revenant, Room, Spotlight

Who Should win: Mad Max, Fury Road
Why? Because this movie was AMAZING. It had the perfect use of practical effects, an amazing twist of the female characters being such a strong and independent force (something you NEVER see in an action film) and an almost extreme gender flip. Max wasn't the main focus, he was more of an aid to the overall mission. The film was not only an extreme breath of fresh air, but it was the feminist anthem Hollywood needed for the action genre.

Who will win: The Revenant
Honestly, I think this movie is such a strong contender, and with the hype it's received, this could be Leo's big shining moment where he breaks the internet. Winning best actor AND best picture.

Actor in a Leading Role:
Bryan Cranston, Matt Damon, Leonardo DiCaprio, Michael Fassbender, Eddie Redmayne

Who should win: Eddie Redmayne
The Danish girl is a film I personally think is missing from the Best Picture category because it is SUCH an important film. Not only did Eddie Redmayne masterfully portray a transgender character, he provided a voice to so many people going through such a dramatic time in their lives. I think it's extremely important for such a demanding and emotional role to win and create extreme awareness not only in Hollywod, but to the many viewers that transgender isn't such a taboo and muted subject in society. That these people deserve to be acknowledged as members of our society and be viewed as equal.

Who will win: Leonardo DiCaprio
It's a given. Eddie Redmayne did win last year, so it's highly unlikely that they'll give it to him two years in a row. Leo does deserve the Oscar, that I can't deny, but I still 100% think Eddie Redmayne deserves a second win.

Actress in a Leading Role:
Cate Blanchett, Brie Larson, Jennifer Lawrence, Charlotte Rampling, Saoirse Ronan

Who should win: Brie Larson
If you haven't seen ROOM already, I suggest you stop pushing it off and watch it right now. Brie Larson DESERVES this Oscar. Her performance absolutely shattered my world. I've never felt so emotionally strained after a movie since We Need to Talk About Kevin. Brie absolutely dominated this film.

Who will win: Brie Larson
It's a given. She's got this in the bag.

Actor in a Supporting Role:
Christian Bale, Tom Hardy, Mark Ruffalo, Mark Rylance, Sylvester Stallone

Who should win: Tom Hardy
I'm mad he's not nominated in the category for Mad Max, but he still crushed it in The Revenant.

Who will win: Tom Hardy
Again, no question. He's got this.

Actress in a Supporting Role:
Jennifer Jason Leigh, Rooney Mara, Rachel McAdams, Alicia Vikander, Kate Winslet

Who should win: Rooney Mara
If she doesn't win, my heart will be shattered. She was snubbed so hard when nominated for The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and if they don't give it to her for her AMAZING job on Carol, I'll scream at the TV for sure.

Who will win: Kate Winslet
I have this weird gut feeling that they're not gonna give it to Rooney. And I think the next best in there is Kate Winslet or Jennifer Jason Leigh. But I feel like it'll go to Kate for sure (if not Rooney)

Animated Feature Film:
Anomalisa, Boy and the World, Inside Out, Sean the Sheep, When Marnie was There

Who should win: Anomalisa
This film was stunning. I loved the mature content with that childhood feel. And the stop motion was done flawlessly!

Who will win: Inside Out
I'm not gonna be extremely upset if Anomalisa doesn't win, because Inside Out was probably the cutest movie ever. I dragged a co-worker of mine to it, and we both loved it so much! The coming of age story was so precious, and I think we've all gone through exactly what Riley went through.

Documentary Feature:
Amy, Cartel Land, The Look Of Silence, What Happened, Miss Simone?, Winter on Fire: Ukraine's Fight for Freedom

Who should win: Amy
This movie. Oh my goodness. I was a big fan of Amy Winehouse, and when she died, like the rest of the world, I was heartbroken. She was such a strong force. And I think this movie captured her essence so beautifully and showed you so much more of who she was, versus what you read about her. Definitely deserves the award

Who will win: Amy
... Nuff said.

Visual Effects:
Ex Machina, Mad Max: Fury Road, The Martian, The Revenant, Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Who should win: Star Wars: The force Awakens, OR Mad Max
I couldn't decide! Both of these films dominated visual effects! The use of practical with CGI needs to become a more common thing (I'm looking at you Jurassic World...)! Both of these films were such a treat for the eyes and I absolutely loved it!

Who will win: Mad Max: Fury Road
I know it's gonna come out on top. This movie's visual effects were just too good to go unrewarded. As much as I hope and pray for star wars, if they call up Mad Max, I won't be upset at all.

So, those are my top categories for the Oscars this year! Though I left out a few, there'll be more coverage on all those categories come the morning of the 29th! (Yes, this is a leap year)
